In May 2015, the Victorian Government has announced a Parliamentary Inquiry into unconventional gas exploration and extraction. The Victorian Parliament’s Environment and Planning Committee tabled its Inquiry into Onshore Unconventional Gas in Victoria final report on 8 December 2015 .

The Government recognises there are community concerns about the prospect of a potential onshore gas industry and community input will be critical in helping the Government understand all the issues related to onshore gas before making a decision on this matter.

The report will be thoroughly considered and a response will be provided within six months. While the Government considers its response to the report the hold on onshore gas exploration and hydraulic fracturing will remain in place.
